During the summer months, London transforms into a whole new city. Rooftop bars open, parks are packed with picnickers and sunbathers, outdoor food stalls pop up everywhere and you can sit outside until late into the evening. This year, the weather gods are particular sweet. We are blessed with hot temperatures (too hot some might say) und endless sunny days. So how can you get the most out of you summer in London?

Here are our top 7 things to do on a sunny August day in London

1. Outdoor Cinema

Watch a movie in the clouds. The Rooftop Film Club has venues in Peckham, Shoreditch, and Stratford. It comes with comfortable chairs, wireless headphones and blankets in case it gets chilly at night.

2. Open Air Theatre in Regents Park

Little Shop of Horrors – Combining comedy, rock music, love and a little bit of horror, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of a poor florist (Seymour), a pretty blonde (Audrey) and a man eating Venus Fly Trap (Audrey II).

3. Get into the carnival spirit

Every year the August Bank Holiday heralds the return of Notting Hill Carnival. So if you like vibrant colours, Caribbean flavours and dancing, add London’s biggest annual street party to your calendar.

4. Pick your own fruit

Head out to Cockfosters and the rural retreat of Parkside Farm this August. They offer different fruits and vegetables to pick, including raspberries and sweetcorn. If you don’t fancy any bending or crouching, they even have special table-top strawberries to pick. Be quick though, Strawberry season is almost over.

5. Paddle up the Thames

Kayaking London run day and night paddling experiences – a beautiful way to see London Bridge and the Houses of Parliament from the water. If the river isn’t your thing, you can visit some of London’s more sheltered areas, like Shadwell Basin or Surrey Docks. Her you can hire canoes or kayaks.

6. Find out the city’s secrets on a walking tour

Take a walking tour and discover more about the people, pubs and places of London’s past.

7. Jazz in the Park

The Pavilion Café in Greenwich Park hosts evenings of live jazz this August. The cafe is next to the Royal Observatory, and has a large garden with great views. There’s also a licensed bar, as well as a barbecue and children’s activities on offer.
